Home to thousand year-old cultures and space-age technologies, India is a study in contrast. Nestling in the midst of land and water, India has dominated the Asian subcontinent for ages.

South India, which covers the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Kerala, is a new experience in itself. An area approximately as large as France, Switzerland, and the Benelux countries put together, South India has its own languages, its own climate, and also its own music. A traditionally strong, culturally rich bastion of the country, the urban centres are witnessing western influences. But even then the religion and customs form a major part of the lifestyle of the typical South Indian.

From the geographical point of view, South India is that part of India which stretches from the Vindhya mountains to Kanyakumari. The two main divisions are the coastal plains along the Bay of Bengal and the plateaue extending to the western ghats. Rivers course down these ghats and flow into the sea. this is one of the richest agricultural regions of India. There are two monsoons and the fate of the entire people depends on these rains.
